      In a nutshell: An Anglo-Irish family has tangled alliances and loyalties during WW1 and the Easter Rebellion of 1916.What I liked: Douglas Tyrell, the officer who is devoted to England's fight against Germany, putting his Irish identity in a backseat for the duration. His experiences at the front were the best part (sadly, the Irish story took over and diminished the battlefront action shortly in).       I’d read and enjoyed other books by James Carroll so it was a treat to stumble upon this book at the Negril Public Library: England and Ireland during World War I, the famed failed Easter rebellion, and the intricate complexities of relationships between the peoples of these two countries.

      I liked the historical fiction and description of the no-man's land between the trenches. I didn't like the love story.
