      First things first: I love this book. I'm a high school English teacher and the minute you say the word grammar in class, students' eyes glaze over, the mobile phones are surreptitiously dropped in laps, you hear huge sighs, and sometimes, from the back row, snores. Rather than creeping up behind the sleepers in dreamland and dropping a dictionary on the table, risking a heart attack and a lawsuit, I just whip out this book.       I found this a bit of a letdown. It tries to be too comprehensive in its scope while being too brief in each section. As such it covers everything from submission letters to basic grammar and punctuation, while barely touching on meaty topics like pacing and voice (which is what I was hoping the book would deal with more).There is definitely useful information in here! I picked up a number of gems. Unfortunately I had to skim through a lot of sections on apostrophe usage to get there.
