The text of Genesis (1997), illustrated by Ed Young, is adapted from the King James Version of the Bible, specifically Genesis 1:1-2:2--the Creation story. In an Author's Note, Young describes his illustrations as an attempt to "capture this spirit of fluidity, of life in its variations and transformations." He has also included on the endpapers, the names of hundreds of endangered and extinct animals as reminders that we are stewards of the Earth.Themes: Stewardship; CreationWays to use this bo [...]

The story of Creation from the Book of Genesis is set against Young's paintings which emerge from the shadows. Endpapers are composed of the names of hundreds of endangered and extinct animals. An author's note prefaces the text and explains the artist's inspiration for interpreting this work.
